In this essay, I’ll give you a brief introduction to these little tools, and also by showing you some pictures of our products I’ll try my best to make this as intelligible as possible.

1. Connection

Not like other tools in our inventory, this kind of tool doesn’t have a threaded connection part. All they have is just a smooth shank, or the cylinder part linking with the rough function part which can be only distinguished by diameter.

The common sizes of shanks include 3/8”/10mm, 1/4”/6mm, 1/2”/12mm. Generally speaking, the size of the shank changes as the whole size of the tool, which should be chosen according to the target stone material; but the different size of the shank does affect the stability in the process to some distend: smaller shank can suffer from heavier bounce and instability.

For this special connection part, these little burs can be attached to special machines like T31 anchoring machine.

2. Length and size

As for this part, there is nothing special to explain: just choose the bigger ones to tackle larger materials and that’s it. Bigger burs can improve the efficiency in dealing with large stones, while small ones can definitely fulfill delicate and detailed sculpting. And in addition, Just like I mentioned in the former paragraph, the shank diameter is sequentially variable according to the length and size and so as the stability factors: bigger ones are much more competent to cut smoothly and consistently. So maybe you can make a trade-off yourself before you decide to choose what sized tools to buy.

Just for a reference, the common size of this tool is around 60mm/2.4”.

3. Quality and fabricating techniques

Sculpting tools are known for their abrasiveness to tackle the jobs like routing, piercing, slotting and coring on your stone materials. To this end, advanced techniques are required to grant them competence. Compared with silicon carbide or aluminum oxide mounted burs, diamond burs are more qualified and can last longer dealing with stone fabrication works. In this field, we have sintered diamond burs(with diamond particles lying in an ordered arrange), electroplated burs and vacuum brazed burs; different techniques ensure a high level of diamond exposure to offer excellent efficient and high-standard performance, as well as long duration and quality.

In addition, burs made of different techniques are best compatible with different stone materials. For example, sintered burs perform better on harder stones and will last longer than other types of their like kind, while electroplated ones are more suitable for tackling softer stones like marble, and without a doubt, they will need maintenance more frequently than other diamond burs.
